The worlds of generative AI and digital design just got closer. OpenAI announced that ChatGPT users can now access Adobe Photoshop, Acrobat, and Adobe Express directly within the chatbot — a major leap in AI-driven productivity and creativity.
This integration brings Adobe’s most widely used creative tools to over 800 million weekly ChatGPT users, allowing them to perform design and document tasks using simple conversational commands. Think of it as having Photoshop’s power available on demand, without ever leaving the chat.

Limited Functionality, Maximum Accessibility
While these ChatGPT integrations don’t provide the full capabilities of Adobe’s desktop programs, they offer impressive versatility for routine creative needs. Users can instruct Photoshop to refine images—blurring backgrounds, adjusting exposure, or applying artistic effects—entirely through text or voice prompts.
The expanded suite also includes Acrobat, enabling users to edit, annotate, compress, and convert PDFs or extract text and tables as needed. Meanwhile, Adobe Express supports rapid design creation for social media, posters, and business materials, maintaining brand consistency with accessible templates.
These tools are already available across desktop, web, and iOS, with Android support for Photoshop and Acrobat expected soon.
ChatGPT Strategic Move Amid AI Competition
This collaboration builds on OpenAI’s October rollout that transformed ChatGPT into a digital ecosystem through app integrations. The first wave included Spotify, Zillow, Canva, and Figma, signaling a new era of conversational interfaces managing real productivity.
Adobe’s move also counters growing competition from Google’s Gemini, which introduced built-in image editing tools powered by multimodal AI earlier this year. Gemini’s features allow users to modify backgrounds, replace objects, and insert new visual elements through text-based prompts in over 45 languages — a direct challenge to design-centric AI experiences.
Ely Greenfield, Adobe’s Chief Technology Officer, described the integration as part of the company’s broader vision to deploy "agentic conversational interfaces" across platforms. “By making Photoshop, Adobe Express, and Acrobat available in ChatGPT, we’re giving users an accessible way to do creative work while delivering the precision and control that define Adobe’s tools, all inside the chat,” Greenfield said.
